Catch-up

Well, it's been a long time, dear blog.
And much has happened!

But I shall only write about the weekend.
This last weekend was one of many ups and downs, but it ended on a fantastically glorious note. A bunch of Chorale people and I stayed up in the music building and watched "The Sound of Music".

I had forgotten how completely and perfectly wonderful, wholesome and decent this film is.
Silly me.
We all squealed and pointed when we recognized the places in Salzburg that we'd been to. Somehow, seeing the streets and hills of Salzburg and knowing that I'd walked them made me yearn to be there even more than when I hadn't visited it yet.
Here's my proof that I've been there:

The fountain that she dances around and sings "I have Confidence".

The gazebo where Liesl and Rolf dance and sing 'I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen".

The cemetary where they hide from the Nazis behind the tombstones.

The cinematography in this film is positively gorgeous, the acting and singing are wonderful, and of course, the score by Rogers & Hammerstein is marvelous.

If you are reading this and you haven't seen this film, then you are missing out on a quintessential piece of film history. It was nominated for 10 Oscars in 1966, and it won 5 of them, including Best Picture.

And it's the kind of film that leaves you with a pure good feeling, the feeling that there might still be some decency and goodness left in the world.

Well, that's my schpiel for the moment. I'm not sure when I'll have the chance to write again, but until then, I say:

"So long! Farewell! Auf Wiedersehen! Good-bye!"
