The fountain that she dances around and sings "I have Confidence".
The gazebo where Liesl and Rolf dance and sing 'I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen".
The cemetary where they hide from the Nazis behind the tombstones.
The cinematography in this film is positively gorgeous, the acting and singing are wonderful, and of course, the score by Rogers & Hammerstein is marvelous.
If you are reading this and you haven't seen this film, then you are missing out on a quintessential piece of film history. It was nominated for 10 Oscars in 1966, and it won 5 of them, including Best Picture.
And it's the kind of film that leaves you with a pure good feeling, the feeling that there might still be some decency and goodness left in the world.
Well, that's my schpiel for the moment. I'm not sure when I'll have the chance to write again, but until then, I say:
"So long! Farewell! Auf Wiedersehen! Good-bye!"
